Yoga is all about quieting the mind so your body can feel the pose. Music is the same way. Practice should always begin with a quiet mind so you can focus on your execution and flow. Thought and intricate, detailed practice help to define the artistry of your music. Anyone can push a piano key down, but real artistry and target practice is what makes you a true musician.
In yoga, we want to feel the pose. Carefully exploring what our body feels like and what it is telling us as we relax and mentally ground down into the pose. Music is the same way. What type of sound are we producing? Are we capable of expressing the music fluidly with feeling? Feeling the music requires careful listening and attention to the details.
Yoga is a continuing process and it takes time an patience for your body to evolve and become more grounded in the poses. Learning piano (playing music) requires the same mindset. It's a long term journey and slow evolution. Enjoying where you currently are in the process is key to sticking with it and being comfortable with yourself. No expectations, just simple and pleasurable enjoyment along the way.
