NOW ACCEPTING TEENS (ages 12 and up)
In a gentle swing style, this jazz ballad emulates a jazz guitar strumming in the left hand while the right hand plays an expressive melody. The piece develops more complex harmonies with rich chords and complex voicings including upper structure triads giving it color and depth.
This is a great technique for developing movement and flow on the piano. Make sure to add the pedal when comfortable to make all the tones (sounds) blend together.
This was a nice rock/jazz fusion. I really liked the rhythm of the main theme that repeated throughout. The middle section had that fun improvisation! Lots of fourths in the left hand voicings.
A nice jazz ballad. I really liked his use of upper structure triads, voicings in 4ths and occasional sharp 9's to give the piece color and dimension. Performed in a rubato fashion.
Arpeggios are so common in piano music. This video demonstrates how to practice arpeggios. Use the pedal to make them sound really smooth and connected.
Jesus Loves Me (no repeat taken) Such a soft pretty version of the song. Love the intro and ending. Arpeggios in the background and softer ending phrases. The little syncopated rhythm in the Intro and Outro gives the piece some texture.
Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, arrangement by Natalie Kuzmina (slower tempo, no repeats taken) This has a lot of changing 16th note/8th note melodic phrases. Care has to be taken to articulate these rhythms correctly.
